EDI messages (or
transactions) are usually delivered
and received using one or more of the
following communication
methods:
VAN's
(Value Added Networks):
Companies that provide communication
services (such as Harbinger Network,
Sterling Commerce, or GEIS),
electronic mailboxes, message
forwarding and retrieving, and more
for the transmission of EDI
documents.
Direct
Communications: These are
performed when a company transmits
and receives documents directly
between trading partners using a
modem connection or direct FTP via
frame-relay circuit.
Internet
Communications: Companies may
elect to transmit documents using
either e-mail or an FTP (File
Transfer Protocol) method.
Many
companies utilize more than one type
of communication method to trade EDI
with their partners. Our
consultants can provide the best
practices for your company.
